Choose access around the research project
Interview analysis, a dissertation, a departmental project and a methods course create different access patterns. Start with who will perform the analysis, how long the work will run and whether use overlaps. Keep occasional reviewers separate from researchers who need to work in the application. This produces a more useful license request than a headcount alone.
Single-user, network and university arrangements
MAXQDA lists single-user, network and university license models. The appropriate route depends on the users and institutional scope. A network enquiry needs a simultaneous-use estimate and an IT owner; a university enquiry also needs a definition of the departments and groups covered. An institutional label by itself does not establish who is eligible or how remote access will work.
Research access and teaching access should be scoped separately
A semester-long course can have a concentrated peak, while doctoral researchers may work throughout the year. Describe course dates, student numbers, research groups and external collaborators separately. Ask whether the proposed arrangement covers each group and what affiliation evidence is needed. Do not assume that access for a class also covers every research project.
Requesting an institutional quote
Our MAXQDA enquiry focus is the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. Include the institution, country, intended term, total researchers and estimated simultaneous users. Add remote-working and device requirements for the technical review. The written proposal should identify the model, covered users and any administration responsibilities.
Example: forty researchers, different working patterns
Imagine a department with forty researchers. Some analyze material daily; others work intensively during short project periods. Forty people does not automatically mean forty simultaneous users. Estimate the busiest realistic period, include teaching peaks, and ask which license arrangement covers those patterns. This is a planning example, not a claim about an available forty-person package.
Different server-license populations
MAXQDA distinguishes Network for a defined group, Free-Floating for a wider institutional population within a quota, and Campus/Site scope. State both the eligible population and simultaneous demand. The server environment and permitted client access must match the selected model, rather than treating every server license as interchangeable.
Industry use cases
The following illustrative scenarios connect documented product features to practical work. They are not Orbislum customer results. Confirm the selected plan and your deployment requirements.
Universities: build an evidence trail through interviews
A research group studies why students leave a course. Researchers code interview passages by theme in MAXQDA and use memos to record how definitions evolve. They return from each interpretation to the supporting material and discuss ambiguous passages together. The intended result is a transparent analytic trail, not an automatically correct explanation. Agree coding rules and access to identifiable transcripts before starting.
Market research: compare themes across customer groups
An insights team has interviews from first-time and returning customers. The Code Matrix Browser helps inspect the distribution of coded themes across documents and identify material worth a closer reading. Researchers revisit the passages before reporting differences. A frequently coded topic is not automatically the most important one, and coding counts alone do not establish a representative market statistic.
